Self Assessment Templates
Checklists and trackers to help you file your Self Assessment tax return correctly.
How to use these Self Assessment templates
The januarys that go wrong are gathering problems, not tax problems. These templates attack exactly that: a document checklist to collect everything the return needs, trackers for income and expenses through the year, and letters for the situations — appeals, corrections — where wording matters.
Best used from April, not January: start the year's tracker the week the tax year opens, tick the document checklist as P60s and statements arrive over the summer, and the return becomes an assembly job. The Self Assessment guides in this hub cover the rules behind each document.
Frequently asked questions
Which template matters most for a first-time filer?
The document checklist. First returns fail on missing paperwork far more than on tax complexity — UTR, P60, untaxed income records, and the reliefs you can claim. Gather first, file second.
Do these work for landlords and sole traders both?
Yes — the core checklist covers every filer, and the income and expense trackers have versions for trading income and rental income. Landlord-specific templates also live in the landlord category.
Can a template tell me my tax bill?
No — templates organise inputs. For the calculation, use our calculators or the return itself; for planning around the numbers, that is what we do as a firm.
