Late tax return accountant in Birmingham.

Missed the 31 January deadline, or several years behind? We file late Self Assessment returns, deal with HMRC and look at penalty appeals, from our offices in Sparkhill and Bordesley Green.

Late tax returns in Birmingham: the direct answer

If your Self Assessment return is late, HMRC charges £100 straight away, then £10 a day after 3 months (up to £900), then 5% of the tax due or £300 (whichever is more) at 6 months and again at 12 months. Late payment adds 5% penalties at 30 days, 6 months and 12 months, plus interest. RR Accountants, a Birmingham practice since 2010 with offices in Sparkhill (B11 4AB) and Bordesley Green (B9 5QE), files the missing returns quickly, works out what you owe, and checks whether you have a reasonable excuse to appeal.

How we get you back on track

  • We check your HMRC record to see which returns are outstanding and what penalties have been issued.
  • We gather what records you have, rebuild missing figures from bank statements where needed, and file the oldest returns first.
  • We work out the tax, penalties and interest so you know the total before you pay.
  • If you cannot pay in full, we can help you ask HMRC for a payment plan.
  • If you had a reasonable excuse, such as serious illness, we prepare the penalty appeal.

Why acting quickly matters

Daily penalties start 3 months after the deadline and the 6-month and 12-month penalties are tax-geared, so each month you wait can cost more. Filing stops the late-filing penalties growing even if you cannot pay the tax straight away.

Can I appeal a late filing penalty?

Yes, if you had a reasonable excuse, such as a serious illness or a bereavement close to the deadline, and you filed as soon as you could afterwards. We check whether your situation qualifies.

I have not filed for several years. Can you help?
