Halesowen is Dudley borough, not Birmingham
Halesowen is a market town on the south-western edge of the Black Country. Since 1974 it has been part of the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley, so your council is Dudley Council, not Birmingham City Council. It borders the Birmingham suburbs of Quinton and Bartley Green to the east and Cradley Heath to the north.
The postcodes are B62 and B63, which can look like Birmingham addresses. B63 sits wholly in Dudley borough. B62 stretches further, into parts of Birmingham, Sandwell and Bromsgrove, so check which council your own address falls under before you rely on any local rule.
We are plain about this: we are a Birmingham firm with offices in Sparkhill and Bordesley Green. There is no Halesowen desk, team or phone number. You get the same service as every client, with one named accountant.
Cornbow, the high street and the business parks
The town centre is built around the covered Cornbow Centre, the pedestrianised High Street and the bus station on Queensway beside the Asda store. Halesowen is also near Junction 3 of the M5, which has drawn offices, head offices and industrial firms to the town. Trade has always sat alongside independent shops, cafes, salons, takeaways, trades and small manufacturers.
Halesowen has no railway station of its own, so many people get about by car or bus. For a self-employed person that raises questions about vehicle costs, which we handle in the same way each year.
- Shop and hospitality owners: bookkeeping, VAT and payroll for part-time staff.
- Tradespeople and subcontractors: CIS deductions and Self Assessment.
- Directors of small limited companies: accounts, Corporation Tax and Companies House filings.
- Employees with side income: a short return, filed on time.
The Halesowen BID levy and your accounts
Halesowen has a Business Improvement District, run by Halesowen BID. Its own website says it supports independent traders, big-name brands, professional services and industrial businesses. A BID is funded by a levy paid by businesses inside its boundary, on top of business rates.
If your shop or office is inside the BID area, the levy will show up as a separate charge. Keep each bill with your other premises costs and send it to us. We will tell you how it is treated in your accounts, and we will not guess at whether your unit falls inside the boundary. Halesowen BID can confirm that.
Letting a property in Halesowen
Most of Halesowen's housing was built in the 30 years after the Second World War, with some Victorian and Edwardian terraces. Dudley Council's housing pages say the private rented sector is 12% of homes in the borough. They describe HMO licensing for properties with at least five tenants forming more than one household and sharing facilities. We found no wider selective or additional licensing scheme on that page. Check with the council before you let.
Tax is national. Rent less allowable costs is taxed with your other income, and mortgage interest on a personal let is relieved as a basic-rate tax credit. Making Tax Digital for Income Tax applies to combined self-employment and property income over £50,000 from 6 April 2026, over £30,000 from 6 April 2027 and over £20,000 from 6 April 2028.
- Rental records kept in one place through the year.
- Quarterly updates and the final declaration where Making Tax Digital applies.
- Personal and limited company lets compared before you buy.
Getting to us from Halesowen
Our Sparkhill HQ is at 380 Stratford Road, Birmingham B11 4AB. It is about 8 miles from the B63 side of Halesowen and about 7 miles from the B62 side, in a straight line. The Bordesley Green office, at 64 Yardley Green Road, B9 5QE, is about 10 miles away. We have not timed a journey, so allow for traffic.
Both offices are open Monday to Friday, 09:30 to 17:30, by appointment. Most Halesowen clients never make the trip. We work by video call, phone and WhatsApp, and you can send records as photos or uploads. Urdu and Punjabi support is available.
What happens after your first call
The first call is free and lasts 30 minutes. We ask what you do, what you file now and what worries you. You then get a fee in writing, fixed for the work we agree, with no figure quoted on the phone.
After that, your Evidence Pack holds invoices, bank records and receipts as you go, and Deadline Lock tracks your filing dates so January and Companies House deadlines are not a surprise.

Is Halesowen in Birmingham?
No. Halesowen is in the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley and has its own council. Some B62 addresses fall in Birmingham, Sandwell or Bromsgrove, so check your own address. We serve all of them from our Birmingham offices.
Can you meet me in Halesowen?
We do not run a Halesowen office. Most work is done online. If you want to meet, we arrange a time at Sparkhill or Bordesley Green, Monday to Friday, by appointment.
I run a stall or shop in the Cornbow Centre. What do you do for me?
We keep your books, file your return or company accounts, and run VAT and payroll if you need them. You register for VAT when taxable turnover passes £90,000 in a rolling 12 months.
Is there extra HMO licensing in Halesowen?
Dudley Council's private housing page describes licensing for HMOs with at least five tenants. We saw no additional scheme there. Confirm with the council for your property, then tell us about any licence costs.
I drive for work in Halesowen. Can I claim for the vehicle?
Often yes, using actual costs or simplified mileage, depending on your business. We check which method suits you and keep a mileage record from the start of the year.
